Deep Groove Ball Bearings
They are simple in design, non-separable, suitable for high and even very high speeds and are robust in Operation, requiring little maintenance. Deep raceway grooves and the close conformity between the raceway grooves and the balls enable deep groove ball bearings to accommodate axial loads in both directions, in addition to radial loads, even at high speeds.
Single row deep row groove ball bearings are the most widely used bearing type. Consequently, they are available from SKF in many executions and sizes.

Angular Contact Ball Bearing
Have raceways in the inner and outer rings that are displaced with respect to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. This means that they are designed to accommodate combined loads i.e. simultaneously acting radial and axial loads. The axial load carrying capacity of angular contact ball bearing increases with increasing contact angle.
The contact angle is defined as angle between the line joining the points of contact of the ball and the raceways in the radial plane, along which the load is transmitted from one raceway to another, and the line perpendicular to the bearing axis.
SKF angular contact ball bearing are produced in a wide variety of designs and sizes.
Self-Aligning Ball Bearing
This type was invented by SKF. It was two rows of ball and a common sphered raceway in the outer ring. The bearing is consequently self-aligning and insensitive to angular misalignments of the shaft relative to the housing.
It is particularly suitable for applications where considerable shaft deflections or misalignment are to be expected.
Additionally, the self-aligning ball bearing has the lowest friction of all rolling bearings, which enables it to run cooler even at high speeds. SKF produces self-aligning ball bearings to several designs.
Cylindrical Roller Bearing
SKF Cylindrical roller bearings are available in a wide range of designs, series, variants and sizes. The main design differences are the number of roller rows and the inner/outer ring flanges as well as cage designs and materials.
The bearings can meet the challenges of applications faced with heavy radial loads and high speeds. Accommodating axial displacement (except for bearings with flanges on both the inner and outer rings), they offer high stiffness, low friction and long service life.
Cylindrical roller bearings are also available in sealed or split designs. In sealed bearings, the rollers are protected from contaminants, water and dust, while providing lubricant retention and contaminant exclusion. This provides lower friction and longer service life. Split bearings are intended primarily for bearing arrangements which are difficult to access, such as crank shafts, where they simplify maintenance and replacements.
Tapered Roller Bearings
This type of bearings have tapered inner and outer ring raceways between which tapered rollers are arranged. The projection lines of all tapered surfaces meet a common point on the bearing axis. Their design makes tapered roller bearing particularly suitable for accommodation of combined loads.
The axial load carrying capacity of the bearings is largely determined by the contact angle a, the larger a, the higher the axial load carrying capacity. An indication of the angle size is given by the calculation factor e. The large value e, the larger the contact angle and the greater this suitability of the bearing for carrying axial loads.
Tapered roller bearing are generally separable i.e. the cone, consisting of the inner ring with roller and cage assembly, can be mounted separately from the cup (Outer ring). SKF tapered roller bearings have the logarithmic contact profile that provides optimum stress distribution over the roller/raceways contact. The special design of the sliding surfaces of the guide flange and large roller ends considerably promote lubricant film formation in the roller end/flange contacts. The resulting benefits include increased operational reliability and reduced sensitivity to misalignment.
Spherical Roller Bearings
Spherical roller bearing have two rowsof rollers with a common sphered raceway in the outer ring and two inner ring raceways inclined at an attractive combination of design features, making them irreplaceable in many demanding applications.
They are self-aligning and consequently insensitive to misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing and shaft deflection or bearing.
SKF spherical roller bearings are leading in design and can, in addition to heavy axial loads acting in both directions.
CARB Toroidal Roller Bearings
This bearing is a completely new type of radial roller bearing. This compact self-aligning roller bearing was developed by SKF and introduced on the market in 1995. In a unique design, it combines the self-aligning capability of the spherical roller bearing with the unconstrained axial displacement ability of the cylindrical roller bearing. It can also have the compact cross section normally associated with the needle roller bearing.
The applicability of CARB bearing covers a wide range with regard to radial loads. They are intended exclusively as non-locating bearing as such they are excellent with their combination at self-aligning and axial displacement properties, opening up completely new opportunities to save space, weight and production costs. By deliberately displacing the rings axially with respect to each other, it is possible to accurately set the radial internal clearance in the bearing.
Thrust Ball Bearing
This bearing consist of a shaft washer, a housing washer and a ball and cage thrust assembly. The bearings are separable so that mounting is simple as the washers and the ball and cage assembly can be mounted separately.
This direction thrust ball bearings, as their name suggest, can accommodate axial loads in one direction. They must not be subjected to any radial load.
Cylindrical Roller thrust bearings
Cylindrical roller thrust bearings are suitablefor arrangements that have to support heavy axial loads. Furthermore, they are relatively insensitive to shock loads, are very stiff and require little axial space. As standard they are available as single direction bearings and can only accommodate axial loads acting in one direction.
Cylindrical roller thrust bearings are simple in form and design and are produced in single row and in double row designs.The bearings in the 811 and 812 series are mainly used where thrust ball bearings have insufficient load carrying capacity. The cylindrical surface of the rollers is slightly relieved towards the ends. The resulting contact profile virtually eliminates damaging edge stresses. The bearings are of separable design the individual components can be mounted separately.
Spherical Roller Thrust Bearings
In spherical roller thrust bearings the load is transmitted from one raceway to the other at an angle to the bearing axis. The bearings are therefore suitable to accommodate radial loads in addition to simultaneously acting axial loads. Another important characteristic of spherical roller thrust bearings is their self-aligning capability. This make the bearings insensitive to shaft deflection and misalignment of the shaft to the housing.
SKF spherical roller thrust bearings incorporate a large number of asymmetrical rollers and have specially designed raceways with an optimum conformity. They can therefore support heavy axial loads and permit relatively high speed operation.
Track Runner Bearings
Track runner bearings are designed to run on all types of tracks and to be used in cam drives, conveyor systems, etc. These bearings have a thick-walled outer ring, which enables them to accommodate high radial loads, while reducing distortion and bending stresses.
The outer ring running surface is crowned as standard. This is beneficial for applications where angular misalignment relative to the track may occur or where edge stresses need to be minimized. With the exception of single row cam rollers, track runner bearings are also available with a cylindrical (flat) outer ring running surface.

Needle Roller Bearings
Needle roller bearings are bearings with cylindrical rollers that are small in diameter. In spite of their low cross section, needle roller bearings have a high load carrying capacity and are therefore extremely suitable for bearing arrangements where radial space is limited. SKF supplies needle roller bearings in different designs and in a wide range of sizes, which are appropriate for different applications.
In addition to customized designs, they comprise the following types and components: • needle roller and cage assemblies • drawn cup needle roller bearings • universal joint bearings • needle roller bearings with machined rings • alignment needle roller bearings • needle roller thrust bearings • bearing washers • combined needle roller bearings • needle roller bearing inner rings • needle rollers • radial shaft seals with low cross sectional height
Conventional SKF ball bearing units are referred to as Y-bearing units. These units consist of: • an insert bearing (a single row deep groove ball bearing) with a convex sphered outside diameter • a housing, which has a correspondingly sphered but concave bore Y-bearing units can accommodate moderate initial misalignment, but normally do not permit axial displacement.
They are ready-to-mount, ready-to-use units and available as: • Y-bearing plummer block units • Flanged Y-bearing units • Y-bearing take-up units
The housings are available in: • composite material • grey cast iron • sheet steel. SKF Y-bearing units provide designers with considerable freedom of choice so that compromises can be avoided.
Numerous standard series Y-bearing units are available. The tables list Y-bearings and Y-bearing housings and their possible combine actions to units. Adapter and withdrawal sleeves are used to locate bearings with a tapered bore on plain or stepped shafts. They facilitate bearing mounting and dismounting and, in many cases, simplify bearing arrangement design.
Adapter sleeve – Tool and accessory selector
The SKF Adapter sleeve – Tool and accessory selector is used to select the correct tools and accessories when mounting SKF spherical roller and CARB toroidal roller bearings on adapter sleeves.
Lock nuts are used to locate bearings and other components onto a shaft or adapter sleeve and facilitate mounting and dismounting. SKF supplies a wide assortment of lock nuts. SKF lock nuts are easy to install, do not damage the shaft and provide effective locking.
Based on our standard bearings and bearing units, these products incorporate special features for use in specific applications. Properly applied, these make costly customized bearings/units unnecessary and, because they are generally available from stock, they can also greatly reduce lead times.

Backing bearings have been specially developed for cold rolling mills of the cluster type, but can also be used for other applications, such as straightening or bending machines.
Sensor bearing units
SKF sensor bearing units are used to accurately monitor the status of rotating or linear components.
These bearings have good emergency running properties and can cope with extreme conditions and high speeds. Their inherent resistance to the passage of electric current means that they are ideal for electric motors and electrically powered tools.
These bearings have an insulating coating of aluminium oxide on the external surfaces of the inner or outer ring. They can be used in difficult electrical applications, with no additional design requirements, and they can also be drop-in replacements for conventional bearings in existing applications.
High temperature bearings and bearing units
SKF bearings and bearing units contain graphite-based lubricant effective at temperatures up to 350 °C (660 °F), making these products very suitable for applications in kiln trucks, roller hearth furnaces, and bakeries.
NoWear coated bearings
These bearings have been surface treated to withstand arduous operating conditions, such as zero or very light loads, or boundary lubrication conditions.
Bearings with Solid Oil
For applications where conventional grease or oil lubrication methods are not adequate or practical.
Polymer ball bearings
These bearings are resistant to corrosion and to many chemicals. They are lightweight and quiet running. Polymer ball bearings require no lubricant.
Indexing roller units
SKF indexing roller units are based on double row or four-row full complement cylindrical roller bearings. They have been developed for applications in continuous furnaces of sintering and pelletizing plants.
Cooper spherical roller bearing is intended for the fixed axle support position where there is both radial and axial loading and the bearing fryer is inappropriate. It is manufactured with two sets of opposing cylinders to receive axial loading in any direction.
While specifically designed for the shipping industry, these conical bearings can also be used in other applications, such as double-entry fans in various industries. They are mounted in a cassette in a way similar to that of the separator roller bearing and are made with grease grooves seals as a standard and also provided for a temperature element.
Horizontal Bearings can be positioned vertically or horizontally to receive axial loads. They can also work in conjunction with other bearings (e.g., radially) in a single layout. Fixed Cooper ball bearings are used in gearboxes in power and cement plants, air preheaters and carbonized pulverizes in power stations and water and sewage pumps and many other applications.
We can offer flat bearings in specially designed designs and hole sizes from 60mm to 600mm according to the requirements of your individual application. They are provided without mounting for immediate integration, but we can also create special cases if not required. All Cooper push-bearings are made to order.
Cooper 04 Series bearings are specialized bearings for lighter tasks in large hole sizes. 04 Series bearings are capable of high speeds, but are also used in lower speed applications. The use of these bearings at high speeds requires particular attention to lubrication. If the bearing is to be used at low speeds, it may be possible to omit certain “high-speed” bearing characteristics, allowing for a more economical bearing specification. In general, these bearings are available in extension types “EX” and “GR”. Alternative configurations are possible where needed
These bearings can be subjected to a degree of adaptation to meet the application requirements. They can also be provided with slightly different hole sizes in those under which they are mentioned.
For low speed applications (up to about 10,000 mm, depending on size and order) we can supply roller less bearings with a full roller. They have the same overall dimensions as GR and EX bearings but have higher dynamic and static capabilities. This may allow for a lighter series of bearings (for example, Series 01 instead of 02), resulting in a more compact and sometimes more economical solution.
Generally, these bearings are available in EX or fixed type expansion types. Additional Exilog types are performed regularly, but often have different folder sizes (in particular, the internal race is usually wider). The lightest row bearings 04 are presented separately. It is always recommended to contact Cooper when setting large bearings.
Water-cooled seating units for continuous casting machines are generally adapted to individual applications. The bearings are of the 071 or 081 series, which are specifically designed for this type of application. The general features of a typical design are illustrated above.
Bearings of the illustrated type can also be applied to other slow motion applications (generally below 15 rpm), where a high capacity bearing in a compact housing is required.
